Back In 2010, Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati came up with a promising business idea of launching a ride-hailing startup.
Once their business plan was finalized they started searching for a name for their startup.
The founders were looking for a name thar was fresh, distinct and easy to remember.
Also, they wanted a name that would help them to associate with the younger generation because they knew that the youth would be the early adopters of their ride-hailing service.
The founders had thought of quite a few names. However, in the end, they chose the name Ola.
The word Ola means Hello in Spanish. The founders also thought it sounded stylish and classy.
When they asked their friends and family about the name- they said that they loved it too.
So they named their startup OlaCabs. And finally, in December 2010, their startup began its operations.
Over time, people all over India loved the ride hailing concept and Ola was a big hit.
Today, more than a decade later, Ola is one of the most valuable startups in India.
It is also one of the largest mobility companies in the world, serving consumers in 250+ cities across India, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
